Gentleman With Globe, Painted On Panel Attributed To S. Williams Esq.

This painting depicts a young male, seated and leaning against a large free standing globe. He sits facing the left side of the scene and has one arm resting across his lap and the other on the globe. The gentleman wears a loose fitting elegant jacket with a white vest and ruffled collared shirt. He has dark eyes and luxurious full hair with long sideburns (not quite muttonchops). There is Byron-esque quality to this portrait. There is no signature on the front however the sitters name and the painters name are inscribed in the wood on the verso; "Portrait of G. Field, by S Williams Esq". This is an oil medium painting upon a panel support, comprised of two vertical pieces of wood joined at the centre; likely English circa 1820;
